Assistant Food Technologist in Llangefni

Llangefni, United Kingdom Coleg Llandrillo Full time

The Food Technology Centre (FTC) has been established since 1999 and plays a key role in transferring knowledge to the food industry in Wales and across the UK. Working closely with food businesses in order to assist them in gaining a competitive advantage, the FTC has dedicated resources which enable food businesses to access technical support, practical solutions, advice and guidance on areas which are key to business growth.

These resources allow the FTC to provide a range of services to the food industry, including research and development, technical advice, knowledge transfer and training courses tailored specifically for clients. The Centre underwent a refurbishment in 2019 and currently has three processing halls and a test kitchen dedicated to adding value to meat & fish, dairy and horticulture. Each processing hall is equipped with an extensive range of modern pilot and industrial scale equipment, for new product development, trialling new lines and the scaling up of an idea. The facilities also include sensory facilities for product assessment and an onsite laboratory which can be used to provide accurate results in order to substantiate labelling and nutritional declarations.

Job purpose

The Assistant Food Technologist will work closely with the team of Food Technologists and Technician, where you will learn how to operate the processing equipment and some analytical equipment housed within the Food Technology Centre and maintain the high standards required as an FSA and local authority approved food premises.

Reporting to the Agri Food Technical Manager, the post holder will support project based new product development, sensory analysis and knowledge transfer activities within dairy (milk, cheese, butter and ice cream), meat and chilled and ambient foods sectors e.g. sauces, confectionery and bakery.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in the food industry or a recent graduate who would like to develop their practical and technical skills. The role is varied but initially will focus on dairy processing.

There will be opportunities for progression to a Food Technologist post should opportunities arise.

Holiday Entitlement

28 days leave per annum (01 September to 31 August).

All normally observed public holidays, determined annually.

Up to 5 days efficiency closure days per annum, determined annually.
