SUMMARY OF ROLE

Danaher Corporation has a matrixed and decentralized organization structure with over 20 operating companies globally.  Our collective operating companies form a significant presence in Europe and present a wide breadth of associate representative forums (including 60+ works councils across Europe). 

Danaher is seeking a Labor and Employee Relations (LER) leader with deep expertise and experience to lead its corporate LER function in the EU and to play a critical role in the development and execution of Danaherâs LER strategy in the region.  The ideal candidate has experience working in a matrixed organizational structure with a dynamic change environment.  This leader must be able to drive strategic and operational solutions and build strong relationships in order to advise and influence stakeholders across the region - including employee representatives such as unions and works councils.  A nuanced understanding of labor relations, including employee representative structures, and constructive management of such relationships is essential.

This role also includes continued implementation of Danaherâs newly formed EU Regional Labor & Employee Relations Center of Excellence (LER COE), which provides core labor and employee relations services to its operating companies (OpCos).  This leader will be required to hire and lead a high-performance team of labor and employee relations professionals responsible for ongoing development, execution and adoption of consistent processes, programs and practices. The team will also provide  creative and effective recommendations and solutions for challenging and sensitive labor and employee relations matters that support a positive and fair workplace culture consistent with Danaherâs Code of Conduct and Core Values.

This opportunity is flexible to be remote or office-based.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with Danaherâs VP â Global Labor & Employee Relations (VP â Global LER) and support her in the development, implementation, and sustainment of global LER strategy and objectives in the region
  • Provide regular and clear communication to the VP â Global LER regarding labor and employee relations issues and opportunities
  • Develop, implement and sustain labor and employee relations strategy for the region aligned to the global LER strategy and objectives
  • Develop positive and partnering culture with employee representative bodies, playing a key and influencing role in critical exchanges with unions, works councils, and other representative forums as appropriate, to achieve business performance, employee engagement and legal compliance
  • Manage team of LER Specialists to ensure high performance and ensure each team membersâ continued talent development and career growth
  • Deliver outstanding core ER services (including leading formal investigations, policy and issue resolution, performance issues, disciplinary matters, individual terminations, mass layoffs, etc.) with systematic approach to understand and address root causes
  • Collaborate with other functions working closely to develop and deliver LER strategies and practices that support their objectives
  • Provide expertise and guidance on core LER issues to scale best practices, including use of workflows and process-oriented solutions to optimize organizational effectiveness in LER service delivery. 
  • Leverage deep technical LER knowledge to review and improve LER policies and practices and provide guidance and recommendations in sensitive and complex LER matters consistent with company policies and core values in support of desired workplace culture. 
  • Strengthen LER related compliance by proactively advocating for ethics and fairness while appropriately mitigating risk.
  • Responsible for driving education, process and program improvements, and audits as appropriate through training and other methods.
  • Develop and proliferate consistent and sustained adoption of Standard Work and best practice tools for utilization by HR organization and stakeholders.
  • Serve as escalation point regarding EU LER issues and handle and consult on complex LER matters.
  • Improve LER service efficiencies and effectiveness based on metrics driven continuous improvement.
  • Develop and conduct LER training curriculum for key HR stakeholders regarding LER COE core processes and best practices.
  • Responsible for all people leadership activities with respect to the EU LER COE team including training, performance management and talent development.
  • Liaise with DHR L&E Legal Team resources as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep knowledge of EU LER subject matter; keeps pace with changes in external labor and employment relations landscape in the EU region.
  • Proven track record of works council management and coordination, including execution of business change, restructuring, policy and project deployment
  • Understands how to apply LER expertise and experience with a pragmatic and proactive approach â knows how to balance collaborative workplace partnerships and business interests 
  • Develops and maintains internal knowledge of pertinent Danaher level and operating company level agreements, guidelines and policies that impact labor and employee relations.
  • Effective listener and strong critical thinker with problem-solving acumen.
  • Excellent written and oral and presentation skills with professional presence; able to clearly and concisely communicate progress, results, and guidance to critical stakeholders in timely manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelorâs Degree in Business, Human Resources, or another related field
  • MBA preferred but not required
  • Deep (8+ years) labor and employee relations experience gained in either specialist or HR generalist roles
  • 3+ years of management / people leader experience
  • Extensive knowledge of key labor and employment laws in the region and labor and employee relations landscape
  • Proven track record for developing, improving, executing and scaling LER programs and solutions and for managing and measuring program effectiveness and customer satisfaction
  • Experience working in a high-energy, quickly changing and demanding environment
  • Significant experience in managing, handling and executing employee relations investigations and preparation of appropriate documentation
  • Significant experience with project and change management
  • Significant experience preparing and presenting LER training/educational materials to large HR audiences
  • Experiences that demonstrate an ability to function independently and effectively in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Excel and with frequent use of ER Case Management technology platform
  • Able to travel 20% - 30%
