The service supports three Consultant-led outpatient clinics each week: a Fracture Liaison Service, the Cardiff Bone Densitometry service, an outpatient 'Bone Treatment' service and a nurse led Self-Injection Program.

The service offers outpatient training to post-graduate trainees in general medicine, geriatric medicine and clinical biochemistry. The service is active in research, current studies are investigating the management of osteogenesis imperfecta, the genetics of Paget's disease, the use of probiotics in Paget's disease, the mechanisms of pain in Paget's disease and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the identification of vertebral fracture. Within the metabolic bone disease unit, we are keen to support the drive within geriatric medicine to increase the opportunities for high quality clinical research, which in the longer term will benefit our patients.
