About the role:

 

The Investment Accounting team provide critical financial and regulatory accounting and business partnering services to the National Gas businesses.  The Investment Accounting Manager leads this team and is a member of the Accounting Services management team.  This role is your chance to help support the transformation within Gas and contribute to the wider Gas Finance journey.

 

This role will lead the management of the financial processing and reporting for Investment projects with  a team of 8 direct reports. You will be responsible for ensuring that financial processes are efficient and compliant, monitoring and reviewing all financial processes and driving change to deliver improvements, ensuring robust controls, processes and service levels are in place for key activities. You will also have a particular focus on business planning, forecasting and stakeholder engagement.

Key accountabilities:

 

  • Management of a team of 8 investment accountants, including personal development and managerial support, distributing tasks and acting as point of escalation​

 

  • Interact with business partners on all levels to identify needs​

 

  • Ensure all process activities are performed on time and with necessary quality​

 

  • Continually improve the service offering of the investment accounting team by actively providing input on investment accounting activities and how they can support the business partner and business processes​

 

  • Ensure process governance including regular reporting and analysis to key stakeholders​

 

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders on a regular basis to discuss operational issues, key metrics​

 

  • Support period end close activities in accordance with agreed close schedules ​

 

  • Support reporting of performance, forecasts and KPI's to senior stakeholders
  • Support compliance with accounting standards and control frameworks​

 

  • Preparation of external reporting & filings​

 

  • Oversight of work performed by Investment Accountants In relation to supporting Project Managers with project financials/forecasts for Assets Under Construction​

 

  • Maximize regulatory returns of the investment portfolios across the business​

 

  • Overall responsibility for project forecasts, project accounting and asset maintenance​

 

  • Support senior stakeholders with performance management, forecasting, KPI's and other internal reporting​

 

  • Maintenance of sound internal controls environment in compliance with relevant legislature​

 

  • Reviewing internal control testing​

 

  • Providing external audit support​

 

  • Developing standard procedures and templates
About you:

 

You're a fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CPA, CA, CMA, CHAE or equivalent) with a background in investment accounting, and relevant people management experience.  You have strong k​nowledge and understanding of accounting standards (GAAP / IFRS), tax reporting,​ and can demonstrate thorough knowledge of accounting principles​.
