Job Description

The Role

The role is to join the team that develops mortality trend assumptions globally, used in pricing and valuing mortality-linked business across the company. These assumptions cover both the best estimate of future changes in mortality rates and the stressed scenarios used in the capital model. The focus of the work is to analyse national and insured population datasets using a variety of statistical techniques to understand the drivers of mortality change, how these vary across different rating factors and how these can be projected into the future.

The role will involve working closely with key stakeholders around the company. These will be others in R&D, as well as Pricing, Valuation and Risk teams. Key skills required include strong analytical and statistical knowledge, attention to detail, good communication skills (especially of presenting complicated topics to stakeholders) and a good understanding of the markets in which we operate.

Duties
  • Develop and update best estimate mortality trend assumptions across a range of countries and territories in Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific. Work focuses on using various stochastic mortality models to fit and project aggregate trends and performing analyses on specific datasets to develop specific adjustments to these.
  • Contribute to the ongoing calibration of the divisional economic capital model by developing and updating stressed mortality trend assumptions for the purposes of capital adequacy across a range of countries and territories.Expand knowledge of actuarial and statistical methods for trend projection and data analysis and contribute to knowledge sharing internally, to ensure Pacific Life Re maintains a high level of technical knowledge in respect of mortality, morbidity and longevity risk
  • Contribute to wider research initiatives such as thought leadership articles and building relationships with academia


Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong analytic and statistical skills, including familiarity with generalised linear modelling
  • Experience with R statistical programming language, and familiarity with Excel, SQL
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Familiarity with the major markets in which we operate, combined with sound judgement and commercial awareness
  • Ability to manage relationships with various stakeholders and willingness to participate in internal discussions on relevant topics
  • Qualified Actuary with a minimum of two years' experience in life (re)insurance
