Birmingham, United Kingdom University of Birmingham Full time

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £38,619 to £65,955

Hours: Part Time (16 hours per week)

Background

We are looking for a creative, thoughtful, and collaborative colleague who would like to develop their academic and clinical career with us, and who will welcome the opportunity to be part of our Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP).

We will consider appropriately qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist applicants at the level of Assistant Professor who are interested in the role of Clinical Tutor and who will contribute to the delivery of the Clinical Psychology Doctorate through teaching, marking, appraisal tutoring, supervisor liaison, and with some opportunities for research (opportunities within the constraints of an education-focused Clinical Tutor role). Applications are welcome from those with established experience as clinical or counselling psychologists as well as those recently qualified.

Role Summary

A demonstrable appetite and evidence of aptitude for acting as a Clinical Tutor for placement-related work is required. The Clinical Tutor, placement-related, role will focus on: (1) liaison with external stakeholders (e.g., placement supervisors), (2) ongoing placement organisation and planning, (3) development and delivery of supervisor training, (4) overseeing trainees’ clinical competences development, and (5) supporting and appraising trainees over the course of their training journey.

Contributions to teaching will likely include: (a) oversight of modules / sub-courses and delivery of teaching; (b) supervisor training / workshops; (c) enhancement of the student experience or employability; (d) marking of assignments; and (e) some opportunities to support trainee research projects.

Whilst expertise in any core specialty and theoretical model is welcome, we are keen to hold a diverse skill-set within the programme. We welcome applications from those working in specialties of Intellectual Disabilities, Physical Health, Community Psychology, and those working from CBT, psychodynamic, and systemic models. Psychologists with secondary accreditation (e.g., BABCP, AFT or relevant psychodynamic certifications) are encouraged to apply. The appetite and ability to contribute to undergraduate and masters level teaching and supervision is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible within their role such that the substantive contributions will be to ClinPsyD, but contributions to other CAP and School programmes might also be required.

Person Specification

Appointees will hold a Professional Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and hold professional registration with the HCPC as a registered Practitioner Psychologist.

Applicants should demonstrate knowledge and skills that have contributed to outstanding postgraduate teaching and learning, show evidence of the ability to teach in clinical or applied psychology, and have experience of working in clinical settings. Applicants should demonstrate established clinical/academic leadership skills appropriate to their career stage and will be expected to contribute to the management, leadership and enterprise activities of the programme and School.
