Location: Agile Worker
Reference: BG14151
Salary: Grade 8 (£38,223 to £42,403 per annum)
Contractual Status: Fixed Term
End Date: 31/03/2025
A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) provides a legally secure placement for a child until they reach the age of eighteen years. It can be a positive alternative to adoption because it retains the child’s sense of identity and belonging. The Special Guardians have Parental Responsibility to care for the child and make all the decisions about their upbringing. Many of these children have been placed with family members or connected persons as a result of court proceedings instigated by the Local Authority. Many of the children are older and will have experienced several Adverse Childhood Experiences whilst in the care of their parents/carers.
You will offer support, advice and guidance to Special Guardians within and outside of the Local Authority and will contribute to their ongoing training to enable them to effectively care for vulnerable children and young people in line with Departmental Policies and the national and regional guidance for SGO.
You will be able to effectively manage a caseload, organise and facilitate support groups and training and produce reports for a variety of audiences and act as an advocate in pursuit of the service users’ best interests. You will represent Social Services in multi-disciplinary settings and comply with all relevant County Borough Policies.
Essential requirements include; CQSW: Diploma or BA honours in Social Work, registration with the Social Care Wales, Social Work experience in Children or Adults Services including placements, knowledge of current legislation, regulations and standards. You must also be I.T. literate, possess effective negotiating and problem solving skills and knowledge of anti-discriminatory practice.
