Summary of the role

The University of Exeter is seeking a senior medical/trial/bio-statistician to support the expanding research portfolio across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (www.exeter.ac.uk/medicine). The post holder will support the work of the new National Institute for Health Research Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Exeter BRC) and the expanding UKCRC fully-registered Exeter Clinical Trials Unit (ExeCTU). This maternity cover post is available from October 2024 until end September 2025; due to business needs, it is important the successful candidate is able start in early October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The post holder will join an established team of statisticians and provide high-quality senior statistical input and collaboration in study design, analysis and dissemination on projects being developed and managed by ExeCTU (www.exeter.ac.uk/ctu), NIHR Exeter BRC (www.exeterbrc.nihr.ac.uk) and other research within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Projects will include randomised controlled trials, cluster randomised trials and meta-analysis, assessing interventions including drugs, surgical techniques, devices and complex interventions, as well as observational studies. Potential healthcare areas include neurodegeneration, mental health, orthopaedics and trauma, emergency medicine, rehabilitation, diabetes, genetics and clinical mycology. The post holder will also participate in methodological research studies addressing statistical challenges of relevance to the Faculty. The post holder may contribute to teaching statistics on undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses and/or running statistics clinics to provide statistical support to researchers and PhD students.  

About you

The successful applicant will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and possess in-depth understanding of medical statistics and clinical trials to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field. In addition, the successful applicant will provide senior statistical leadership to research teams, lead and develop internal and external networks and develop links with external contacts in order to foster collaboration and generate income.
