To support the departmental lead(s) in maintaining an efficient and effective service delivering safe patient care within an environment that promotes a responsive approach to changing health care needs.

This post combines clinical practice with the leadership responsibilities of day-to-day shift coordination. You will provide supervisory management and leadership skills and be motivated towards self-development in both management and leadership studies.

You will continually support and work in conjunction with the Team Managers to ensure the effective delivery of high standards of nursing care. 

You will be expected to lead on a day-to-day basis the running of specialist clinical area/ department, and when allocated will act as the daily coordinator for the department, providing supervisory management and leadership skills in an environment which is complex and pressurized.

At this level the post holder is expected to work as a skilled emergency Practitioner working autonomously to support other colleagues to co-ordinate the clinical areas and to provide specialised knowledge ensuring the maintenance and development of a skilled nursing /Practitioner workforce.

Participate in an on call and night rota, on AFC terms.

Participate in Resuscitation / Trauma Team.

Main duties of the job

Assesses care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision.

Delegates the delivery of care where appropriate and supervises its delivery.

Ensures that the patient’s physical and psychological needs are met including their fundamental care needs.

Provides specialist clinical advice within the multidisciplinary team.

Deals with complex situations that arise, analysing and making decisions in relation to patient risk and care.

Ensures the skills associated with Immediate Life Support (ILS), Paediatric Life Support (PLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are used effectively to organise the care and safe handling of the critically ill/ injured patient.

Alert appropriate agencies when there are any concerns regarding potential/actual risk to a patient e.g. child protection, domestic violence and protection of the vulnerable adult.Be competent in the use of specialised equipment.

Manages a specialist clinical area within the department for the duration of the shift as designated by the departmental lead, including daily coordinator, allocation of staff, organizing resources and dealing with emergency requests.

Qualified to act as a senior practitioner within the department across a minimum of 1 disciplines. Theatres: Scrub person, Anaesthetic practitioner, and Recovery practitioner.

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
