Buxton International Festival is seeking early-career musicians to form its inaugural Buxton Chamber Collective as part of its Young Instrumentalist Programme.

The Collective will play in one of two productions within the festival including Haydn’s La canterina and Smyth’s The Boatswain’s Mate, both of which will be performed at the Pavilion Arts Centre, Buxton this July 2024. Musicians will additionally perform at smaller concerts including the Buxton Musical Society performances and the Friend’s concerts.

The ensemble will be made up of strings, horns and oboe.

We are interested to hear from musicians who are:
- based within commuting distance to Buxton (Manchester, Sheffield, Macclesfield, Birmingham)
- within the first ten years of their career, under the age of 30

We are particularly interested to work with people from the global majority and those with protected characteristics.

Contract dates: 27 June - 21 July 2024
Orchestra alone rehearsals will take place in Buxton from June 27 – 28 June 2024.
Technical rehearsals will be in Buxton between 24 June – 4 July.
Festival performances will be in the Pavilion Arts Centre between 5 – 21 July 2024.

Fee plus Expenses:
£2000 fixed fee, plus travel expenses to/from Buxton capped at £15 per return journey.

Second Round Live auditions
Live auditions will be held on 22nd April in Manchester (venue TBC)
Applicants will be expected to play one classical piece and one 20th Century piece.
