Hammersmith, United Kingdom The Godolphin and Latymer School Part time

Head of Rowing

Permanent

Part time

Term time + additional days

For September 2024

The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London. The School’s facilities are excellent, making it an exciting place to learn and work. The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Head of Rowing. The successful candidate will have a passion for rowing and a proven track record of coaching. They will be responsible for overseeing the development of our rowing teams, from beginners to advanced rowers, ensuring that all students are given opportunity to thrive in the sport. They must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, delivering the best possible club rowing experience for students and parents alike.

The Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club, currently based out of Kings’ boathouse, Barn Elms and Fulham Reach club, has grown significantly over the last few years and now delivers an outstanding programme. In equal measure, elite rowers are coached and expertly guided to perform at their highest level, whilst novices are encouraged and supported to pursue mastery and enjoyment of rowing.  There is an incredibly warm atmosphere within the Boat Club and students are supportive of each other’s endeavours. The incoming Head of Rowing, responsible to the Director of Sport, will look to consolidate current strengths but also look strategically at the next 5 years at what is needed to further develop Godolphin and Latymer rowing in line with the approach of the wider sports department.

This role will require the post-holder to operate at a variety of locations including on the school site to liaise with the sports department, at the boat houses to oversee training and at regattas to support the students’ competitive endeavours. The number of hours contracted per week will be discussed at interview but is likely to be upwards of 30 hours per week (such that this is taken as a mean average across the year).  The post holder must be available to accompany rowing trips and regattas.

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

For further information about our school and this role, please visit www.godolphinandlatymer.com. Fully completed application forms must be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com as soon as possible or latest by noon on the closing date. Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form. CVs alone will not be accepted.

The closing date for this vacancy is noon on Monday 2 September 2024. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Interviews will be arranged on receipt of successful application. We reserve the right to close the advert once the successful applicant has been found.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children."

The Charity called The Godolphin and Latymer School (charity registration number 312699) is administered by The Godolphin and Latymer School Foundation, a charitable company limited by guarantee (Company number 3598439).
