What can you expect?

Becoming a PCSO offers you the chance to become a force for good in your local community, providing huge reassurance to the public and helping those who need us most.

As the first point of contact for the community, you’ll need to be a great communicator as you’ll find yourself assisting with all sorts of situations. One moment you might be gathering vital intelligence to aid an investigation, the next tracking down a wanted person.

Being able to rely on your problem-solving skills to face a variety of situations head on is vital as well as always being willing to lend an ear to people you meet whilst out on patrol.

 

To apply for the role you will need to meet our eligibility criteria:

  • You can apply without a GCSE A*-C (4-9) or Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in both English and Maths however you must have obtained these qualifications by the time of your End Point Assessment.
  • You need to be aged 17 or over on the day you submit your application. You will need to be 18 years or over by your first day.
  • Have lived in the UK for three continuous years, immediately prior to application.
  • Have leave to enter or leave to remain and work in the UK for an indefinite period.
  • Have a full UK manual driving licence (you can still apply if you are currently learning to drive and plan to take your test, however you won't be able to join an intake until you have passed your test).
  • Not be a current or previous member of a proscribed terrorist organisation or group.
  • Not have tattoos which could cause offence.
  • Not have more than six penalty points.
  • Not have served a prison sentence.
  • Be able to pass a job-related fitness test.

Proof of Qualification

If you already have your Level 2 or equivalent certificates please upload these to your application. If you do not have your certificates, you will need to obtain replacements from your exam board, you can find more information on gov.uk

If your qualification was achieved outside of the UK, your certificate must be translated to English by a certified translator.
