We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the lab of Dr Mathew Stracy, based in the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford. The project will investigate the molecular and evolutionary biology underpinning antibiotic tolerance with the goal of developing new methods to eradicate antibiotic tolerant bacteria.

The post-holder will be responsible for managing own academic research and administrative activities. You will plan and execute experimental work applying multiple techniques including antimicrobial susceptibility testing, laboratory evolution, whole-genome sequencing and microscopy to investigate the mechanisms and evolution of antibiotic tolerance in Escherichia coli. You will assess hypotheses, troubleshoot or adjust experimental works when needed, and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources.

The post-holder should hold, or be close to completion of, PhD/DPhil in a relevant subject (microbiology, molecular biology, microbial genomics, or a related field). You will have prior experience working with bacteria and antibiotics and have an excellent understanding of antimicrobial resistance/tolerance mechanisms. You will have proven skills in molecular microbiology and genetics techniques and/or microbial genome sequencing and bioinformatics demonstrated by first author publications in scientific journals. The post-holder should be organised, highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

This is a fixed-term appointment available for 2 years in the first instance. If you are interested in this role, and have the skills and experience we are looking for, please apply online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Mathew Stracy at mathew.stracy@path.ox.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on the 25 October 2024. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
