Senior Clinical Psychologist

Auditory Implant Service

Location: Highfield Campus

Salary: £44,263 to £56,021

Full Time, Permanent

Closing Date: Sunday 15 September 2024

Interview Date: To be confirmed

Reference: 2797724LH

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dedicated and compassionate multi-disciplinary team at The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS). USAIS is renowned for providing a regional service for severely and profoundly deaf children, young people and adults across the south of England and the Channel Islands. The service is within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton. We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Clinical Psychologist to join our wonderful team.

You will be involved in providing a specialist psychology service to children and young people who are either undergoing an assessment to see if they might benefit from a Cochlear Implant/s, or who have already had their Cochlear Implant surgery. The work includes specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy and there are opportunities for individual work, group work, and work with the wider system. Consultation and advice on patient’s psychological care to the wider multi-disciplinary team, as well as liaison with external agencies, is also an important aspect of the work. Although you will predominantly be focused on the child and young people branch of the service, there are opportunities to work across the lifespan.

You will be a valued and key member of the multi-disciplinary team and have opportunities to shape the Clinical Psychology Service at USAIS. There are also opportunities to teach on courses run at the University and with partner charities and organisations, as well as to utilise your research skills and be involved in audit and service development within USAIS. You will also have a key role in the USAIS safeguarding team which provides consultation and support to the wider team. Attendance at conferences and training courses is encouraged and supported for continuing professional development.

You should be an experienced clinical psychologist with experience of working in the field of disability/health issues. Experience with D/deaf individuals is beneficial, but your induction will help you gain experience in this field.

As a university, we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. With a generous holiday allowance as well as additional university closure days we are committed to supporting our staff and students and open to a flexible working approach.

Apply by 11.59 pm GMT on the closing date.
