Job Description:

Customer Development Director role within Mars Pet Nutrition involves leading and executing the strategy for key customers, maintaining senior-level relationships, and driving the customer agenda at Mars. You will lead a team to develop world-class customer relationships, ensure strong execution, and influence internal stakeholders for profitable growth.

Location: Waltham, Leicestershire in the UK (you will have visit the office a few days per month)

What are we looking for?

  • Degree educated or equivalent. Highly numerate and analytical, with strong communication and influencing skills. 

  • Broad, diverse and significant customer experience with ability to impact and influence customer of all sizes, at all levels of management 

  • Significant grocery customer facing experience, at all levels including priority customers with a track record of results, impact and influence 

  • Experience of working in a multi-functional business unit environment. Knowledge of broad business management and commercial management skills (business forecasting, financial analysis, P&L management, supply side knowledge). 

  • Track record in developing tailored customer plans and strategies, sales and category solutions that deliver profitable growth customer plans 

  • Significant people management experience is required along with a demonstrated ability to set and communicate a clear vision, coach for performance and development and engage teams  

  • Experience in trade revenue optimisation to include building, implementing, and evaluating a customer investment plan with a consistent track record of ROI and sales growth 

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Being an ambassador for the customer within Mars and Mars within the customer, through developing and executing the customer strategy in line with the Strategic Channel Management framework

  • Build a network of Category and Commercial Director level strategic customer relationships across the contact matrix (i.e. buying, end to end supply chain, category, formats, marketing).  

  • Set and manage team to deliver input and output metrics across sales, profit, forecast accuracy, trade spend, distribution, feature, activation. Maximise return on investment within the channel. 

  • Accountability for each account’s performance and opportunities through the S&OP cycle. Ensuring opportunities are driven through the cycle in Team Meeting, DMR and MBR when required. 

  • Leadership, line management and engagement of the team to effectively deliver the strategy, utilizing key business enablers e.g. HPC and PDP frameworks

  • Build the necessary capability and succession planning within the team, ensuring a development culture through the PDP and development plan process. 

  • Contribute actively to the Sales Leadership Team delivering the vision, plan, priorities and capability for the Sales team
