The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is home to one of the UK's leading centres for Rheumatology, providing excellent patient care, high quality education and outstanding research.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic consultant who will contribute to the provision and development of high quality rheumatological care for our populations. Sessional commitments will include outpatient clinics, review of inpatients at the request of consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary clinical meetings.

You will be encouraged to join existing rheumatological sub-specialisms or develop your own clinical niche. There are also opportunities for interested candidates to provide clinical supervision of the local Musculoskeletal Integrated Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service based at Cannock Chase Hospital

The contract is for 10 Programmed Activities.

Applicants will be expected to have MRCP and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving CCT from date of interview.

Main duties of the job

Our rheumatology team consists of twelve highly experienced full-time consultant rheumatologists. We have 2 specialist trainees, supported by a large number of allied health professionals including community specialist rheumatology nurses, specialist biologics nurses, specialist osteoporosis nurses, musculoskeletal sonographers, day-case unit nursing staff, research nurses and our administrative support team. We have 4 International Clinical Fellows.

Our clinicians have experience and expertise in all areas of rheumatology including rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, sero-negative arthritis, early arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, connective tissue disease, SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), scleroderma, vasculitis, osteoporosis, and children with arthritis. Patients benefit from access to state of the art diagnostic and treatment services. Our clinicians are at the forefront of research into rheumatology disease, imaging, early arthritis, osteoporosis and education.

The Rheumatology Centre is a training site for specialist rheumatology doctors in the West Midlands region, and is also a teaching hospital for of the universities of Birmingham and Aston.

About us

We see patients at both New Cross and Cannock Chase Hospitals. We also provide a service to the population of Bridgenorth. The service will also be supporting Rheumatology Services at Walsall Healthcare Trust. As such flexibility in work location will be required.

As a senior clinician the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.

The post holder will be expected to play an active role in Junior Medical Staff Training and Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching alongside Clinical Audit, Research and Clinical Governance. Research is encouraged. The service is also currently developing closer working relationships with the Rheumatology service at Walsall Healthcare Trust. As such flexibility in work location may be required

Full General Medical Council registration and a licence to practice.

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT/CCST in Rheumatology

Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.

Experience in devising, conducting and applying audit results

Willing and able to work with colleagues in management, nursing and other specialities to ensure the delivery of a high quality, safe and reliable service

Must have an interest in teaching all grades of hospital and professional staff
