Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

Fixed-term from 01st January 2025 until 30th June 2028, full-time

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the research group of Dr. Sarah De Val at the University of Oxford. Our lab studies the different regulatory pathways which control gene expression within the vasculature, with an emphasis on transcriptional regulation of endothelial heterogeneity.

The successful applicant will lead on a research project aiming to understand how arterial identity and differentiation is regulated, and to identify novel strategies to induce and improve arterial growth to prevent ischemia and stimulate tissue repair.

Responsibilities will include in vitro and in vivo enhancer analysis in human cell lines, animal and zebrafish models, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and ATAC-seq experiments on variety of cell types, and knock-down, over-expression and chemical screens in both in vitro and in vivo settings. You will be required to manage your own academic research and administrative activities, write up results for publication in international peer-reviewed journals and prepare scientific reports in order to represent the research group at external forums.

The successful applicant will have experience in the field of gene regulation, and in using zebrafish as an experimental model. Applicants must hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field, such as biochemistry, molecular biology, oncology, or chemistry.

The post is available from 1st January 2025 and will be based in The Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), IMS-Tetsuya Nakamura Building, Old Road Campus, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7TY.

Informal enquiries may be directed to the DPAG HR Team – hr@dpag.ox.ac.uk/Associate Professor Sarah De Val – sarah.deval@dpag.ox.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is midday on 21st August 2024.

Interviews are likely to be held at the beginning of September 2024.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.

While this is a full-time role, we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.

We, as a Department and Community, will be considerate and welcoming of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. We acknowledge societal inequalities and how these impact us, and those around us, personally and professionally. – DPAG Statement of Inclusion.
