Junior Fellow: Economics

Winchester, United Kingdom Winchester College Full time

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Junior Fellow: Economics, starting in September 2024.

The Winchester College Graduate Trainee Teacher (Junior Fellowship) scheme is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a career in education. The Junior Fellowship is offered annually on a fixed one-year basis to recent university graduates and has been designed to provide aspiring teachers with the support and training they need to become excellent practitioners both in and outside the classroom.

As well as offering a constructive and practical first step into the world of teaching, the scheme offers an all-encompassing experience of school life in an independent boarding school.

Economics is a popular Sixth Form subject at Winchester College, with around 100 pupils studying Economics across the two years. The department has three teachers, who teach both macro and microeconomics. Being a small department, we aim to work collaboratively and supportively. Economics enjoys an excellent academic record at Winchester College: in Summer 2023, 58% of A-level Economics candidates (we study Edexcel) obtained either an A* or A grade. Each year pupils from Winchester go on to study PPE, Economics, and related subjects at Oxbridge and other top universities.

About Winchester College

The school was founded by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, in 1382. Winchester College is a boarding and day school of over 700 pupils. In September 2022, the College welcomed 40 day boys and girls into the Sixth Form, and will continue to do so over time, expanding the entry each year to include girl boarders in due course.

Situated in the heart of Winchester and within easy reach of London, there are few schools in the world which can claim to be as historic, distinguished, and beautiful as Winchester College.
