We are looking for an individual who is able to help inspire and engage the young people that we serve. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their skills and experience in a challenging, motivating and highly rewarding environment. Previous experience of working in a SEMH environment would be desirable, excellent support skills and the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are also just as important.

Applications are invited from colleagues offering experience from mainstream schools and other educational / vocational settings. The ability to contribute to the development of our school is essential and we believe that energy, passion and a commitment to high standards are key characteristics required.

The successful candidate may have industry experience and experience of working with young people with a range of complex learning needs. You will be able to demonstrate a working understanding of how these needs impact upon learning and behaviour in the classroom. You may have specialist knowledge and experience of working with pupils with social, emotional and behaviour difficulties.

Industry experience in any of the following sectors are desirable:

Hamilton School is an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Special School in Reading educating up to 64 students with Education, Health Care Plans (EHCP). Our mission is to recognise each and every one of our students as individuals, and to nurture their potential, developing the whole child through a therapeutic approach. This means that you would have to be a resilient character who is able to remain positive when dealing with challenging behaviour. The school is proud to have recently opened its doors to a state-of-the-art building with wonderful new facilities for both pupils and staff.

In January 2020 Hamilton School joined the Maiden Erlegh Trust family of schools, whose motto is “Aim High, Be Inclusive, Work Together”. The aim for every school in the Trust, whilst espousing their values and ethos, and having a core of common policies and procedures, will serve its own community’s needs in a bespoke way and also create a feeling of community within its own school. In that way all the potential and talents of every child and every member of staff will be nurtured.

For our teaching team we offer a flexible CPD programme which staff can tailor to their own needs which includes coaching and training for new entrants to the profession and to support career returners.
