Job Purpose

The role involves delivering engineering activities within the project team. Responsibilities include executing New Build construction, Asset Replacement (NAMP), and Fault response on a standby basis for UK Power Networks Services' owned assets, client-owned assets, and related infrastructure, under the guidance of the Lead Operational Engineer.

The position entails acting as a deputy for the Lead Operational Engineer/Project Manager, which includes participating in Client and Contractor meetings.

Collaboration with Project Managers, the Operations Manager, the Lead Operational Engineer, and other regional delivery team members is crucial to ensure the safe and efficient completion of assigned tasks, while minimizing disruption to client electricity supplies.

A key responsibility is working with team members to uphold safety management throughout all engineering task deliveries, in line with the UK Power Networks Services' Stay Safe initiative.

Principal Accountabilities

Responsible for delivering Construction programmes for UK Power Networks Services' owned assets and client-owned assets, operating across a voltage range of 400V to 132kV.

Collaborate with the Lead Operational Engineer/Project Managers to ensure all work programmes are completed on time and within budget, adhering to contractual commitments regarding time, cost, and quality.

Lead the planning and execution of works and act as the UKPN Services' representative during client interactions at various sites across the region.

Work alongside Technicians, Fitters, and Apprentices to guarantee the completion of all engineering activities.

Assist in managing budgets for construction and NAMP delivery, aiming to achieve ongoing objectives.

Contribute as a team member to fulfill UK Power Networks Services Company goals, with a focus on Staff and Client satisfaction.

Adhere to Client and UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures.

Operate HV and LV Distribution Protection Systems.

Test and Commission.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 11kV Senior Authorised Person, with 33kV authorisation (for UD grade) but can be developed, as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules.

  • Experience in distribution systems through the range 400V to 33kV

  • Security clearance for Client infrastructure Access - provide a five-year work history with references and achieve a satisfactory criminal records check.

  • Medical & Drugs and Alcohol screening

  • Educated to HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering (for UD grade), or working towards, or equivalent experience.

  • Working knowledge of distribution HV Systems

  • Knowledge of Building Services Systems

  • Working knowledge of specialist HV equipment

  • Read drawings and understand content

  • Work in different environments

  • Identify problems, understand main issues and investigate alternatives

  • Hold clean, full driving licence

  • Use Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, MS Project and other custom software packages.

Desirable

  • A broad understanding of UK Power Networks Services businesses.

  • To be skilful in decision-making.
