Degree in Social Work (minimum Upper Second, if classified) or equivalent
Must be Social Work England registered
Comprehensive understanding of legislation such as the Children Act 1989/2004, Leaving Care Act 2000, Housing and Education Acts, with strategic reference to safeguarding
Excellent spoken and written English, with proficiency in computer literacy for case recording and report production
Good communication skills for direct work with children and partnership with parents/carers
Experience in working within culturally/ethnically diverse localities
Proven ability to carry out comprehensive risk and needs assessments and create, implement, and review care plans
Excellent analytical skills for complex casework and care planning
Desirable: Competent IT user, successful completion of ASYE, and strong commitment to delivering better outcomes for children


What the Job Involves

Undertake assessment and social work services to users and carers in line with statutory duties and powers under legislation
Work in accordance with local government guidelines and make appropriate use of available resources
Participate in duty team or rota to ensure timely progression of cases, safeguarding vulnerable children, and informed interventions
Complete contacts, referrals, and undertake sec47 enquiries and child and family assessments while on duty
Undertake Care Proceedings and represent the Local Authority at Court
Provide a casework service to the most vulnerable looked after children
Manage, implement, monitor, and review plans involving users and liaise with other workers and agencies as appropriate
Utilize available resources and comply with Children Services recording policy
Make use of management information systems for recording, retrieval, and analysis of information
Receive supervision from immediate line manager and participate in training as required
Undertake preparation of reports, statements, and legal documents for court as necessary
Ensure adherence to the Council’s Equal Opportunities, Race Equality, and Health & Safety Policies
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as Team Managers, Service Managers, other social workers, and a range of professionals from various agencies
Promote safeguarding and welfare in line with the Council’s commitment to children and vulnerable adults
