Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has a vacancy for a permanent, full time Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV within the Central local Integrated health community. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with strong leadership and management skills to play a major part in delivering a high quality, innovative, integrated sexual health model of care for the population

The Consultant will join a highly motivated and friendly team of two consultants, nursing, administrative and pharmacy staff in the central integrated health. Additionally you will be networked with a further 3 consultants and their respective teams who provide services in the West and East integrated health communities.

The post is 10 sessions per week and is based At Glan Clwyd Hospital.

The successful applicant will be expected to help shape the development of the service, and have the opportunity to develop a special interest to augment and expand on current services provided.

Main duties of the job

To Provide Clinical Care to patients accessing sexual health and HIV services. To provide clinical care and management to patients living with HIV To provide in patient support to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Continuing responsibility for the care of patients including all administrative duties associated with patient care. To provide consultant clinical advice within the sexual health team and to primary and secondary care colleagues Work with colleagues and service leads to establish new clinical pathways Provide supervision and support for the multidisapinary team and provide telephone/ email advice to other healthcare professionals

Qualifications & Training
Essential

 

Primary medical qualification Full GMC registration and license to practice MRCP or equivalent. CCT in GUM or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) AND entry on Specialist Register, or eligibility within 6 months of prospective interview date.

Desirable

Dip GUM - Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine, or equivalent Diploma in HIV medicine, or equivalent DFSRH - Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive health or equivalent Letter of competence in Intrauterine Techniques (LOC IUT) Teaching qualification including STIF trainer

Clinical Governance
Essential

Thorough understanding of Clinical and Information Governance Understanding the role of clinical audit, quality improvement, incident and risk management Evidence of participation in clinical audit and quality improvement Evidence of participation in incident and risk management

Desirable

Evidence of clinical audit or quality improvement being published or presented nationally or internationally as either an oral or poster presentation

Leadership and Management
Essential

Experience of leadership within a multidisciplinary team Awareness of wider local, regional and national policy developments in sexual health and HIV. Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS Experience in the development of clinical guidelines and care pathways, in line with best practice.

Research, Teaching and Training
Essential

Understanding of research methodology Experience of undergraduate and / or post graduate medical teaching and / or other healthcare professionals

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Essential

Thorough, up-to date knowledge of clinical issues related to STIs, and HIV Experience of managing both simple and complex HIV patients A working understanding of, and experience in, identifying and managing safeguarding issues in both adults and children. Evidence of participation in relevant continuing professional development. Confident in examining gram-stained smears and wet-prep with direct light microscopy. Experience of teaching undergraduate, postgraduate medical and nursing staff.

Desirable

Experience of working within an integrated sexual health setting. Experience of telephone consultations with patients. Thorough, up-to date knowledge of clinical issues related to contraception.
