Solihull Community Housing is working to make a real difference to the local community, and the Housing Options Team play a key part of this. 

The Housing Options Team is a customer focused front line service providing advice to customers on a range of housing options to provide information, guidance and signposting on available benefits and services. 

Our focus is the prevention of homelessness and ensuring our statutory functions are carried out in accordance with the relevant legislation. 

There is a requirement to manage complex cases and to determine and apply legislative requirements through to decision making. Duties include:

  • To process and investigate applications for housing accommodation including those cases who are homelessness and threatened homelessness, having a clear focus on preventing or relieving a person’s homelessness, making such inquiries as are necessary to determine what duty is owed to customers under the Homeless Reduction Act.
  • To undertake interviews and visits with customers and attend any multi agency meetings as required.
  • To manage a complex caseload ensuring that all necessary paperwork and records are effectively maintained and are accessible.
  • Take reasonable steps to secure suitable emergency and temporary accommodation for homeless households according to statutory requirements.
  • To ensure that advice and information about homelessness and prevention of homelessness is readily available. Provide positive outcomes for customers using a full range of housing options and empowering where possible.
  • Have an understanding of and maintain your knowledge in a wide range of relevant housing and welfare rights and duties including landlord and tenant law, homelessness, localism, immigration and asylum, matrimonial and family law in order to be able to provide specialist advice as necessary.
