Postdoctoral Research Assistant

Swansea, United Kingdom Swansea University Full time

Location: Singleton Campus, Swansea

About The Role

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term position until 30/09/2026.

A postdoctoral researcher is required (for a total period of 24 months) to conduct research on the Cancer Research Wales Pritchard and Moore Scholarship “New radiosensitizers for triple-negative breast cancer”. Research will be performed primarily at Swansea University, Department of Chemistry, and the project will include a 6 month placement at Bangor University, School of Medical Sciences. The project will also involve working closely with collaborators at the University of Oxford, Department of Oncology.

The role requires the synthesis and characterisation of metallo-drug candidates, their evaluation as enzymatic inhibitors, and the evaluation of their therapeutic potential in cancer cell lines, including alongside ionizing radiation (IR) to identify novel radiosensitizers. This will involve working with researchers from a range of disciplines, including chemists, cell biologists and medical scientists.

Small molecule synthesis, enzyme inhibition and non-IR cell-based assays will be conducted at Swansea University, Department of Chemistry, while a placement in Bangor University, School of Medical Sciences, will provide the candidate with a fantastic opportunity to undertake advanced immunofluorescent assays alongside IR studies.

The successful candidate should hold an advanced degree in chemistry, medicinal chemistry or a related subject and have a keen desire to undertake research at the chemistry/biology/medicine interface. Experience of small molecule synthesis in addition to cell culture techniques are required, while further training in cell-based assays and bio-assays will be provided.
