Job Purpose

To deliver a quality service to the most vulnerable families in the area, utilising evidence based programmes in order to encourage and promote more effective parenting thus reducing the likelihood of harm to children and young people.

As an Out of Hours service, we also provide crisis intervention where a family needs urgent assistance to ensure that issues that need immediate attention are managed and the family situation is stabilised. When working as Out of Hours we liaise with EDT and the Police when required to do so if any safeguarding concerns arise.

To Transport children who have become looked after to and from school, to and from family time, and other transport needs.

Main Tasks performed

To participate in the delivery of a range of services designed to enable the child / young person to meet their individual development potential. To work with the whole family to achieve this where appropriate. This will be achieved through the assessment and support of the child / young person’s development in line with the dimensions of the assessment framework.

To safely transport children and engage with the children during transportation to help them feel at ease.

To be alert to signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that the children and young people are monitored and protected, reporting to the relevant senior when required.

To be cognizant of and to work following all departmental and Merthyr Tydfil / Regional Safeguarding Board policies, practices, and procedures on child protection.

To be sensitive to the needs of individual children taking account of race, culture, language, and religion.

To talk to and listen to children and observe their behaviour recording significant features, and to offer children and their families the opportunity to access a body of knowledge through the worker in order to improve outcomes for families by implementing well evidence programmes, ensuring the work is preventative and accessible at an early stage.

To provide additional support and comfort to children in distress.

To assist children and their families in meeting their basic needs and improving overall outcomes for the family.

To stimulate and encourage children to engage in play and social activities relevant to their developmental needs.

To ensure families are worked with on an out-of-office hours basis where this is appropriate and beneficial for the family.
