We have opportunities within the Library Information Advisory Team for someone with experience of working in a customer facing environment together with excellent IT skills. Reporting to the Senior Library Information & Advisory staff at the site, you will act as the first point of contact for library customers either on Welcome or Information desks. Work at these desks could involve responding to customers’ library information and IT enquiries, dealing with borrower account issues, building access or booking enquiries.

You will also take on a variety of tasks to support the service, such as helping customers to use the Library’s self-service facilities, issuing requested items, or assisting with the work of the digital commons, plus tasks to support the circulation of library material to customers including: the retrieval of items to fulfil customer requests, and the sorting and shelving of books according to the library classification system.

Our Learning Space Assistants are often the first source of help for customers and this role requires you to have good communication skills and enjoy helping with enquiries. The work of the Learning Space Assistant varies between the library sites and also in response to changing service needs at different times of the year; as a result, we are looking for someone who is happy to work flexibly across all library sites and who enjoys the challenge of change. You will also need to have the physical capability to work quickly and accurately, both unsupervised and within a team, to meet service delivery standards.

We have various part time positions available:

Post A - 8.5 hours (Mondays 4.30pm-9pm & Wednesdays 1pm-5pm)
Post B - 8 hours (Wednesdays 1pm-5pm & Thursdays 5pm-9pm)
Post C - 8.5 hours (Wednesdays 1pm-5pm & Fridays 4.30pm-9pm)
Post D - 8 hours (Wednesdays 9am-1pm & Saturdays 5pm-9pm)
Post E - 8 hours (Fridays 9am-1pm & Sundays 5pm-9pm)
Post F - 8 hours (Tuesdays 5pm-9pm & Sundays 5pm-9pm)
Post G - 7.5 hours (Wednesdays 2.30pm-7pm & Saturdays 6pm-9pm)
Post H - 7.5 hours (Thursdays 4.30pm-9pm & Sundays 6pm-9pm)
Post I - 8 hours (Wednesdays 9am-1pm & Saturdays 5pm-9pm)
