Position: Technical Operations Engineer

The Technical Operations team focuses on the companies software products. The team is responsible for the operational delivery of associated services. The team has a strong technical background and is responsible for proactive monitoring and service improvement, as well as dealing with customer support escalations for services across various platforms and technologies.

Reporting to the Technical Operations UK Team Lead, the Technical Operations Engineer will build, manage, and maintain Azure and AWS cloud-hosted solutions, including deployment and third-line support of in-house developed applications.

The successful candidate will join an existing team of eight engineers in the UK and be part of the wider Technical Operations team. Working with Customer Support teams, Technical Architects, and Application Developers, the Technical Operations Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring exceptional customer experience.

This role will require flexible working patterns to cover extended hours, which may include up to 10 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Responsibilities

Application Support: Provide 3rd line support for in-house developed applications, resolve incidents escalated by first- and second-line support teams, liaise with development teams to identify application defects, and apply workarounds. Deploy application updates, patches, and hotfixes.
Availability Management: Oversee the hosting and platform service to ensure compliance with availability and performance SLA commitments. Proactively monitor and respond to event logs, error logs, and alerts to mitigate service issues. Provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure the fastest possible recovery of service in the event of a platform or hosting issue.
Continual Service Improvement: Ensure tools, products, and skills associated with hosting and service delivery are constantly challenged and updated. Research industry best practices and contribute to the CSI programme within the Technical Operations team. Represent Technical Operations in other CSI programmes, providing technical assistance and guidance as required.
Team Support & Knowledge Transfer: Drive knowledge development throughout the team to ensure operational knowledge and skills are widely shared.

Experience supporting internal and client-facing cloud-hosted applications.
Experience supporting production-grade environments in AWS and/or Azure.
Experience supporting Microsoft SQL and/or Postgres databases and writing complex queries.
Desirable:

Strong working knowledge of core AWS services (including EC2, ECS, RDS, CloudFront) and/or core Azure services (including Windows VMs/IIS, AKS, SQL).
Good working knowledge of network configuration in AWS and/or Azure.
Proficiency with Gitlab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Docker, Terraform, Bash, Packer, and Ansible.
Experience using and maintaining Terraform/Ansible scripts for building/deploying AWS and/or Azure environments.
