Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Northumbria University Full time

ABOUT THE ROLE

Within the context of Initial Teacher Education, the role holder will contribute to delivering the Faculty’s strategic priorities, which include the integration of excellent teaching and contemporary practice. The role holder, with appropriate support, resources, and guidance, will be responsible for the development, organisation and delivery of curriculum content of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The role holder will contribute to ensuring that our curriculum reflects the latest developments within the practice area of Initial Teacher Education.

For further information about the Assistant Professor (Practice) role please see the job description

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 therefore the successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

ABOUT THE TEAM

As part of the Initial Teacher Education team you will work within the Department of Social Work, Education & Community Wellbeing (SWECW).

The Department offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with a particular focus on high quality professional education, research, and innovation across multiple disciplines. In addition to Initial Teacher Education, these include social work, social care, public health, occupational therapy, childhood and early years studies.

Within our department we are ranked top 20 nationally for our education programmes (Complete University Guide 2023) and ranked 3rd in the UK for research power in Social Work and Social Policy, with 78% of our research activity rated as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

The ITE team has extensive experience gained through their own practice-based expertise and have built a wealth of research and knowledge to underpin the student experience. We are committed to working collaboratively and cooperatively and have a passion for teaching, learning and research.

In this context we offer both undergraduate and postgraduate routes to Qualified Teacher Status and have around 400 students enrolled across these programmes. Crucial to the success of our work, and the experience of students, is our relationship with school partners across the Northeast region and the leading practice of the teachers that work in those settings.

About you

Applicants should hold a first degree in a relevant subject, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and substantial professional experience in Primary Education. In this context, you must also be able to demonstrate contemporary expert specialist knowledge, subject expertise across the primary curriculum and experience that reflects the latest developments in the broad field of education.

Experience of designing, delivering, assessing, and evaluating high quality teaching and learning practice as well as evidence of your contributions to the development of contemporary practice are essential.
