£60-70k + bonus + benefits

This role requires an experienced Senior Battery Systems Engineer with customer facing abilities that can technically lead battery design and development projects but be actively involved in the hands-on design of electric vehicle battery systems. (automotive, marine, etc)

Key factor – the battery systems engineer must be able to understand vehicle powertrain systems requirements and develop an appropriate battery solution (cell selection, enclosure, cooling, busbar, etc). This will involve working from concept to prototype and beyond .

Based in Leamington Spa.

Senior Battery Systems Engineer - Requires:

Proven experience within the design of battery systems for EV powertrains systems would be required (automotive, marine, off-highway, aerospace, etc).

  • Relevant qualification in a suitable subject (e.g. degree in automotive engineering, electrical engineering, etc).
  • Experience of battery cell selection (systems level understanding of cell chemistry, format, form factor etc), battery pack design and production methods.
  • Good electrical engineering capability (HV set up, busbar, electrical distribution).
  • Able to develop a battery solution to meet powertrain / vehicle energy needs.
  • Experience with the design of thermal management / cooling solutions for battery packs (enclosure, cooling method) – able to oversee the detailed modelling and design.
  • Able to interpret systems simulations and modelling.
  • Excellent communications skills (working directly with customers / suppliers).
  • Strong organisation skills (able to mentor junior engineers and technically lead projects).
  • Experience of working in fast paced product development environments (e.g. automotive)
  • Good appreciation of vehicle integration (mounting, brackets), insulation, packaging and rugged designs.

Other skills (beneficial) Senior Battery Systems Engineer

  • First hand experience of the design and packaging of battery packs for automotive EV applications (or similar) including cooling / thermal management
  • Experience with the design of battery systems and solutions for other mobility platforms such as marine, aerospace, etc.
  • Experience with the design / development of busbars for battery systems would be very useful.
  • Experience of thermal analysis / CAE software would be useful (e.g. Ansys Fluent, Star CCM)

Our client is looking for Senior Battery Systems Engineer to take customer EV projects from concept to prototype. Experience of off-highway, military vehicle, marine, aerospace, or other vehicle battery systems could be considered but automotive is preferred. Experience of designing battery packs from initial requirements, cell selection, enclosure design, to production would be preferred.

This Senior Battery Systems Engineer role is based onsite (hybrid working available) and is commutable from Birmingham. Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry and Lutterworth.
