The role
As a Design led motorcycle company you will be pivotal in help taking the brand on the journey into Modern Luxury, a first in the motorcycle world. The Design Manager will help support managing the entire design process for new motorcycle models, from initial concept to production. As a direct report to the Head of Design, this role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of automotive or motorcycle design and market trends. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our motorcycles meet the highest standards of design while satisfying the requirements for function, cost and quality.
You will have experience manager and leader of people within the Design environment and as the ‘go-to’ person for other departments you will be able to protect the design intent throughout the execution phase of the project.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Help lead the design team in the creation of innovative and market-leading motorcycle designs
- Develop and manage design workload and deliverables
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and aligned with market needs whilst maintaining our Design led, modern luxury positioning
- Oversee the development of design prototypes and coordinate testing to validate design concepts
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company quality guidelines
- Stay updated on industry trends, competitor products, and technological advancements to inform design decisions
- Mentor and develop junior designers, fostering a creative and collaborative work environment
- Deputise for the Head of Design and if necessary present design concepts and progress updates to senior management, board members and stakeholders
- Coordinate with suppliers and external partners to source materials and components
- Experience with physical mock-ups and launch phase activity
Personal Specification
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or automotive design or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in motorcycle design or a related automotive industry.
- Proven track record of managing design projects from concept to production.
- Excellent negotiator, communicator, strong minded with the ability to influence.
- Strong understanding of motorcycle engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo, Alias or Blender) and other design tools.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Passion for motorcycles and a deep understanding of rider needs and preferences is ideal.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Design/Concept phases
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and materials.
- Strong network within the Automotive industry.
