The University wishes to appoint an exceptional Research Associate for the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded research project “Coldfish - potential benefits and risks of borealisation for fish stocks and ecosystems in a changing Arctic Ocean”. The project will use existing and newly acquired samples from Barents Sea marine animals, particularly fish, to derive stable isotope data with which to characterise the food-webs and potential effects of changes in sea ice and species composition with ocean warming.

You will have a PhD and broad knowledge of marine food-webs and possess expertise in stable isotope ecology. You will be required to conduct research at sea and in the lab, perform ecological modelling and report findings; you will also have opportunities to assist teaching especially at BSc and MSc levels. You must be able to work independently.

You will have exceptional interpersonal and team-working skills. You will also have excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to engage with academic and non-academic stakeholders (e.g. industry, government and the general public) at a local and international level.

The University holds a silver Athena SWAN award in recognition of our good employment practices for the advancement of gender equality. The University also holds the HR Excellence in Research award for our work to support the career development of our researchers, and is a member of the Euraxess initiative supporting researchers in Europe.

Please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system.

This post is a full time, fixed term appointment for 36 months from date of appointment. To apply, see original post .
