About the role: As a Care Worker at Vernon House, you will be an integral part of our team who put the children and young people at the heart of everything we do. You will have the chance to lead by example, creating a warm and supportive environment where children can thrive and grow. You will provide a stimulating environment, conducive to the educational, personal and social development of the children as outlined on their plans. You will be a Key Worker for a child or small groups of children offering appropriate levels of support, guidance and care and you will maintain regular contact with the parents/carers of our children and young people, under the direction of senior staff. About you: Ideally, for this role, we are looking for someone who has experience of working within a children’s home setting, is passionate about supporting young people and holds, or is working towards a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent. If you don’t have the experience or qualifications yet but share our commitment to developing confident and capable young people and making a difference to their lives by meeting their educational, health and social care needs in structured, nurturing school and home provisions, we would love to hear from you. We will fund your level 3 qualification and provide the support you need to successfully achieve it. If you achieve it within 12 months, you’ll also get a £1000 bonus

  • Provide a safe environment for the young people in our care.

  • Encourage the young people to be motivated and take part in activities, education and extracurricular activities.
  • Have attention to detail ensuring correct information is recorded in all paperwork
  • Be able to adapt working practice to the ethos of the home.
  • Have resilience, motivation, and determination.
  • Can adapt to challenging and changing situations.
  • Be inclusive to all children.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours per week, over 7 days.
  • Up to date knowledge of the current legislation governing the sector.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to own training and development.
  • Be flexible and able to undertake shift work including weekends and sleep-ins.
  • Be confident in using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word, or willing to learn.
  • Apply for enhanced DBS disclosure and if applicable, overseas criminal records checks.
  • Full UK driving licence

About us: Vernon House, part of Kedleston Group Limited, is an independent children’s home in Poynton for children and young people aged between the ages of 9 and 17 who may have experienced social, emotional and mental health needs.
