Lancashire Constabulary's Professional Standards Department is seeking a Vetting Officer to be based at Hutton Headquarters. The site is accessible by public transport and there is also free car parking on site.

The purpose of this role is to assist the Vetting Officers in ensuring the provision of an effective and efficient vetting service in accordance with legal requirements and national guidance ensuring appropriate standards are maintained. You will also deal with researching, interviewing, interpreting and reporting on candidate's personal information and making proportionate risk based decisions based on the information presented.

Key responsibilities which may be required in the role are:
  • To support the Vetting Officers to oversee the strategic direction of the Vetting Team by developing, implementing and managing appropriate policies, procedures and processes, ensuring vetting requests are completed expeditiously and that a quality service is delivered.
  • To make proportionate and auditable evidence and risk based decisions ensuring appropriate standards are applied in accordance with legislation, policies and guidance including, as required, the facilitation of reviews and appeals.
  • To conduct thorough research into applicant's private and professional lives producing accurate and detailed file summaries to aid effective decision making.
  • To interview applicants, both face to face and by telephone, in order to obtain additional information or clarify details/facts to enable an accurate assessment of risk and vulnerability to be made to inform the vetting decision.
  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Intelligence and Anti-Corruption Team, adopting a pro-active approach to identifying risk and vulnerability, actively seeking to safeguard both individuals and the force and referral of appropriate cases to risk panel as required.
