Would you like to join a diverse and lively gastroenterology department in a large teaching hospital?
An opportunity has arisen to create a new post to expand the provision of gastroenterology services in Nottingham. The new appointee will join a team of 30 NHS and academic gastroenterologists and hepatologists working in the department at present and will have the opportunity to establish their own subspecialist interest. An upper GI, small bowel or functional interest would be particularly welcome but is not essential, and a wide range of luminal gastroenterology interests could be accommodated. The appointee will provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services both in clinics and endoscopically according to their interests to patients across the QMC and Nottingham City Hospital sites. They will contribute to the acute gastroenterology on-call service (currently 1:13), weekday daytime cover at City Hospital (3 weeks per annum) and will contribute to inpatient care of luminal gastroenterology patients at QMC for 8 weeks a year in 2-week blocks. At least 2 PAs will be dedicated to supporting professional activities in the initial job plan, and job plans are open to discussion and amendment to suit the needs of consultants and the department. We are a large, busy department in a thriving teaching hospital which hosts an NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in which Gastroenterology and Hepatology play a major role and a regional intestinal failure unit. The Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Hepatology inpatient beds are located at the QMC campus. Emergency inpatient endoscopies, ERCP, EUS, EMR & RFA are provided from the endoscopy suite at QMC. Out-patient clinics and elective endoscopy are delivered from the Nottingham Treatment Centre on the QMC site. Although we do not have any inpatient Gastroenterology/Hepatology facilities on the City Hospital Campus, we provide senior GI, Nutrition & Hepatology consultations for other specialty in-patients, and out-patient Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endoscopy and Nutrition services. The Endoscopy unit at NCH provides elective and emergency diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy facilities. It is a designated bowel cancer screening centre. Dedicated Day Case Gastroenterology services, non-malignant radiology and histopathology MDTs, and administrative support are available on both campuses.
