By leveraging cutting-edge simulation technology, you'll explore new design concepts, optimise material specifications, and challenge our Systems thinking virtually free from traditional product testing. This role is your chance to innovate, seeking new ways in which we will deliver superior clinical outcomes in our prosthetics and orthotic devices. Create unique features that differentiate our products from competitors, ensuring Blatchford remains at the forefront of medical device innovation.
Your leadership will be crucial in streamlining design iterations and reducing reliance on physical prototypes with long lead times, significantly accelerating our product development process. By bringing new products to market faster than ever before, you'll directly contribute to our competitive edge and market leadership.
Moreover, you'll play a key role in enhancing cost efficiency by minimizing the need for physical prototypes and extensive testing iterations. Through early identification and mitigation of potential risks, you'll ensure robust, reliable designs, preventing costly issues down the line. Your insights will drive continuous improvement across the R&D team, allowing us to adapt quickly to changes and refine our products to meet evolving market needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Develop and implement digital simulation and analysis strategies for the R&D team, aligning with overall business objectives and budgeted projections.
- Lifecycle Management: Lead our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) journey, ensuring new product designs are digitally managed from concept to full volume manufacture.
- Digital Platform Coordination: Manage R&D’s digital platform to handle product-related data and documents, initiating automated workflows throughout the entire product lifecycle.
- Team Leadership: Build and manage a diverse team of talented engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
- Recruitment and Development: Recruit, onboard, and develop team members, providing mentorship and career development opportunities.
- Performance Management: Create and implement performance management plans, regularly evaluating and providing feedback to team members.
- Project Management: Identify and prioritize key strategic projects requiring simulation expertise, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
- Innovation and Efficiency: Develop innovative models to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and accelerate time-to-market for new products.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong background in mechanical, systems, and software engineering applications, ideally within Class I and II medical devices.
- Experience operating in safety-critical or highly regulated industries, with knowledge of ISO 14971 and ISO 13485 standards.
- Comprehensive experience in bringing electro-mechanical medical devices to market, including familiarity with IEC 60601.
- Ability to collaborate effectively at design and project review meetings, presenting technical data with recommended actions.
