Overview Are you looking for a new Receptionist position in Buckinghamshire? We have an excellent opportunity for a Receptionist to join us at our Gateway Office. This is a 12-month secondment/fixed-term contract opportunity. In this post, you can put your outstanding customer services skills into action. It’s time to discover a customer service role with a difference - in an environment that’s as warm, friendly and caring as you are. It’s time to enjoy more variety, better rewards, innovative technologies and great support for your development. About Us Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally. About The Role As the first point of contact at our headquarters, you will provide a professional, warm welcome for the Senior Leadership Team, elected Members, colleagues and visitors to Buckinghamshire Council. You’ll manage the reception desk, maintain accurate visitor records, issue and receive security passes, and make sure the right people are promptly notified when their guests arrive. In addition to your front-of-house duties, you will act as the fire evacuation reporting officer for the Gateway office. You’ll also collaborate with key teams such as Taxi Licensing and Electoral Services, supporting their visitors and helping to coordinate appointments. Alongside greeting and hosting, you’ll offer confident signposting to services, handle general enquiries, and support visitors to access our digital services when needed — all while maintaining a calm, efficient front‑of‑house environment. Our Customer Service Centre supports high volumes across multiple channels and our offices assist around 9,000 customers face‑to‑face each year, so you’ll be part of a team that makes a visible difference to residents and colleagues alike Please see the attached job summary for further information on the role and person specification. Fixed As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there. About You You’re friendly, professional and customer‑focused, with the ability to make connections with people from all walks of life. You’re computer‑literate, comfortable multi‑tasking, and you thrive in a busy front‑of‑house setting. We will provide all the training you need in our systems. Please state in your application what customer service skills you can bring to this role. Other information Where our roles are customer-facing and you are required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the role. This is a full-time customer facing role and part-time applications cannot be considered. Interview dates: To be held as soon as possible following advert closing date. This post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare: All unspent cautions and/or unspent convictions For further information on how long it takes for cautions and convictions cautions to become spent, please refer to our guide on the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (updated 2023) | Nacro We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications, so please be advised to submit your application as early as possible.
