Strategic Asset Investment Planning Project Manager

This exciting role presents you with the opportunity to apply your project management skillsto support the delivery of strategic investment planning. The team are concentrating on concluding the case for the renewal of National Highways infrastructure assets for the 2025-2030 period. This role will support improvements and commitments arising from this work and make a direct contribution to the future success of the organisation – a key part of which is to develop asset health and serviceability indicators.

This role is Nationwide based and can be appointed to any of our offices.

What you will be leading on

  • Working with internal stakeholders and consultants to develop and implement an asset health metric and serviceability framework.
  • Developing and maintaining project roadmaps to achieve the milestones of the business and critical stakeholders such as our Monitor, the Office of Rail and Road, and Department for Transport.
  • Utilise external expert and consultancy support as appropriate; and evaluate and act on such advice to ensure objectives are achieved.
  • Act as a source of specialist subject matter expertise; to liaise across National Highways, its contractors and suppliers and to support colleagues in developing high quality evidence to support medium to long term investment planning of renewals across the full spectrum of asset classes.
  • Document strategic and technical solutions and communicate to all stakeholders, to support implementation and to ensure the availability of audit evidence.

To be successful

  • An understanding of asset management, ideally with some experience developing and/or working with asset health and serviceability indicators.
  • Ability to manage projects involving technically minded stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing stakeholder relationships to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to understand technical issues and explain these in simple terms to uninformed stakeholders.
  • Able to work within a dispersed term of technical experts and support staff.

A bit about us

The role of the Strategic Asset Investment Planning team is to develop analytical capability and evidence to support renewals investment planning. We liaise across the business and provide regulatory challenge then ensure messages are communicated clearly and consistently to DfT and ORR. We are located within the Company’s Customer Strategy and Communications Directorate and help build the evidence base to support future renewals investment planning, working with our colleagues from across the business, in particular Operations, Safety, Engineering and Standards and Commercial teams.
