Job Title: EC&I Engineer (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) - Building Services Location: Employment Type: Contract (Inside IR35)
Duration: 12 Month Rolling Contract
We are seeking a talented and experienced EC&I Engineer with a strong bias towards Building Services to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of control, electrical, and instrumentation systems within building environments, ensuring they meet the required standards and regulations. You will also have substantial experience in electrical distribution, including cable routing, transformers, switchgear, and distribution networks. Experience within the Nuclear sector is highly desirable. Develop and design control, electrical, and instrumentation systems for building services applications, including HVAC systems, lighting, fire alarms, security systems, BMS (Building Management Systems), and energy efficiency systems.
Electrical Distribution Systems: Design and implement electrical distribution systems, including the layout of cable routes, selection of transformers, and specification of switchgear and distribution boards for efficient power distribution throughout the building.
System Integration: Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other building services specialists to integrate CE&I systems into overall building infrastructure, ensuring seamless coordination with electrical distribution systems.
Nuclear Sector Projects: Engage in nuclear sector projects where applicable, adhering to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards, and ensuring that CE&I systems are designed and implemented in compliance with nuclear industry regulations.
Project Management: Manage CE&I aspects of building services projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget.
Produce detailed technical documentation including system specifications, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, panel designs, control philosophies, and electrical distribution layouts.
Ensure all electrical and control systems meet applicable industry standards and building regulations, including health and safety guidelines, with a focus on nuclear compliance where relevant.
Testing & Commissioning: Lead and participate in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical and control systems within building projects, including verification of electrical distribution networks, transformers, and switchgear.
Provide technical support for the maintenance and troubleshooting of installed CE&I systems, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of both building services operations and electrical distribution systems.
Energy Efficiency: Support initiatives aimed at improving the energy efficiency of building systems by optimising control strategies and implementing advanced technologies, including improving the efficiency of electrical distribution systems.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with project teams, including clients, contractors, and subcontractors, to deliver projects successfully.
Education: HNC in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a CE&I role with a focus on building services and electrical distribution.
Electrical Distribution Expertise:
Experience with the design and installation of electrical distribution systems, including cable route planning, selection and installation of transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels.
Strong understanding of electrical load calculations, protection systems, earthing arrangements, and power distribution networks in building environments.
Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems used in building services (HVAC, lighting, BMS, fire safety, and security systems).
Proficient in control systems design, PLC programming, and automation.

Nuclear Sector Experience: Experience in the nuclear sector or on nuclear projects is highly desirable, with a solid understanding of the unique challenges, regulations, and safety protocols required in nuclear environments.
Eligibility for Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC) and able to work on sensitive and regulated projects within the nuclear and defence sectors.
Software Skills: Proficient in using design and simulation software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools), PLC programming software, and electrical system modelling software.
Ability to troubleshoot complex control and electrical systems and offer innovative solutions.
Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes.
Familiarity with smart building technologies and IoT integration.
Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) would be beneficial.
