Department: Buying Location: London Description We have an exciting opportunity for an Ethical & Sustainability Compliance Specialist to join our team in London (hybrid office/ home working). The role reports into the Head of Quality, Environment & Ethics with management responsibility for the Ethical & Environment Assistant. It is a varied role that covers ethical sourcing, environment roadmap delivery including sustainable product compliance, and our work to Net Zero. Key Responsibilities Compliance and reporting: Supporting compliance with all ethical and environment legislation, regulation and reporting requirements, including modern slavery, greenhouse gas and sustainability standards (EUDR/ ESPR/ etc). Maintaining accurate and auditable records and certifications for our ethical and environment performance. Overseeing ethical audits, supplier risk scores, and corrective actions to meet ethical targets, mitigate risk and ensure continuous improvement. Managing supply chain mapping beyond Tier 1 to achieve business targets for percentage of supply chain mapped and engaged. Working with communications teams to ensure the brands compliance with international green claims codes. Reporting on ethical and environmental metrics to support internal and external briefings and decision-making. Managing supplier onboarding, upholding policies and ensuring new suppliers ethics align with ours. Overseeing our RDS audit annually ensuring we maintain certification. Maintaining an understanding of existing and evolving best practice, legislation and reporting requirements, supporting business alignment with evolving standards. Engagement, Development And Collaboration Managing and developing the Ethical & Sustainability Assistant. Collaborating with operational teams to de-risk our supply chain to embed positive changes and minimise ethical risk. Influencing positive change to support delivery of our environment/ sustainable roadmap. Promoting an understanding of ethical and environmental processes to ensure consistent adherence to our polices and regulation. Supporting development of new sustainable initiatives to facilitate opportunities and enable progress to material and circularity targets. Maintaining our relationships with thirds party experts and supporting future collaboration. We Would Like To Meet Someone Who Is Experience as an Ethical and Environment Specialist reporting into an ESG Manager or Head Of with an understanding of the ethical and environment challenges within a retail environment. However, candidates who meet the role competencies from outside the retail industry will also be considered. Essential skill: Competent at reading SMETA/ BSCI factory ethical audits and managing non-conformities with an international supply chain. Strong knowledge of SEDEX ethical system including SEDEX advanced reporting capabilities. Strong knowledge of ethical and environmental legislation and reporting standards. Working knowledge of commonly used sustainable certifications and brands – GOTS/ OCS/ GRS/ RCS/ RDS/ Lenzing/ FSC/ etc. Good understanding of Green House Gas reporting/ strategies for Net Zero. Advantageous to have experience of managing at least one team member, to a formalised performance management framework. Strong analytical skills and data driven mindset, with the ability to conduct research and summarise information. Highly organised and effective communicator capable of influencing internal and external stakeholders to drive positive impact. Advanced Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables, and X-look ups.
