Salary: £37,000 - £50,000, + up to 10% bonus per annum

Working Location: Nationwide (Home-based working).

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent - 36.25 per week.

Becoming a Registered Building Inspector:

We will consider individuals who are in the early stages of working towards RBI application and support you with the necessary requirements to become a Registered Building Inspector (Class 1, 2, 3) with the NHBC.

NHBC have a dedicated professional employee support team for the Building Safety Regulator framework and will provide the funding and training required.

* Please note this opportunity requires a minimum of Class 2A-F RBI Registration.

What you'll be doing:

You'll be an important part of a multi-disciplinary team of professional engineers and surveyors with responsibility for assessing Building Control and warranty applications on a wide variety of residential and mixed-use schemes.

You will be looking at all aspects of Building Control and assess accordance with our service level agreements and operating procedures to ensure that all statutory requirements are met and meet the needs of our customers.

You'll be based from home but can expect to be out frequently, visiting sites in your geographical area. From time to time you'll also need to visit our offices, including our head office in Milton Keynes.

Key elements of Building/ Senior Surveyor role are to:

  1. Assess Building Control and warranty applications for residential developments and associated non-residential uses.
  2. Negotiate with developers, builders, and their professional advisors, from initial design to completion, to ensure proposals are satisfactory in relation to regulation and our Standards.
  3. Co-ordinate Building Control inspections, issue of Final Certificates, site and type approvals, and resolving problems relating to Initial Notices/Final certification.
  4. Support our Building Inspectors and Inspection Managers with expert advice, inspection of high-risk/complex elements or features of building work, the identification/communication of key inspection stages, and review of progress.

What we are looking for:

  1. You will have in-depth knowledge and understanding of Building Regulations, building technology, and technical training.
  2. Experienced with structural defects and related claims, engineering, NHBC Standards, and site inspection would also be a benefit.
  3. In-depth relevant building/construction experience with substantial knowledge of the housing and commercial sectors.
  4. An understanding of building pathology.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information to internal/external audiences.
  6. Be of a proactive nature, a self-motivated approach, and a willingness to develop your role.
  7. Experienced in Building Control.
  8. A full Driving licence is required for this role.

Education and Qualifications:

  1. We want to find a great person who has or is working towards chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution i.e. MCIOB, CABE, or similar.
  2. Ideally, you will be working towards construction-related qualifications such as City and Guilds, HNC, HND, or NVQ (or equivalent). Or have already obtained a construction-related qualification.
