SERVING POLICE OFFICERS (CONSTABLE) ONLY WITH A DSU BACKGROUND

Applications are invited from Constables for a vacancy for the post of Source Handlers within the West Midlands Police Dedicated Source Unit. The role is currently based near to Birmingham city centre, applicants will need to appreciate that they can be posted anywhere within the Force area and will be required to perform on call duties.

Applicants will need to have the highest levels of integrity, communication and report writing skills. You will be expected to demonstrate a broad operational and investigative background and be highly motivated. An understanding of the intelligence process is fundamental to the role.

The post is both challenging and rewarding and carries a high level of responsibility.

Applicants will be responsible for ensuring performance is in line with the Force priorities, whilst ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and the law.

Essential Skills:

Will be required to successfully attend and complete a nationally accredited training course in the Management and Use of Covert Human Intelligence Sources. Will successfully complete a DSU Handler portfolio. Will be required to successfully complete training in the CHIS database. Good communication skills. Possesses good ICT skills and is proficient using the range of police information systems Evidence of a wide ranging and solid investigative background. Must be willing to be vetted SC enhanced level in accordance with force policy Will be required to perform on call duties via an on-call rota. Desirable Skills:

Experience of working in an intelligence/information field. Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and NPCC Guidance on the Management of Police Information (MOPI). Knowledge of police systems and policing; current legislation, policies and procedures (e.g. RIPA, GDPR, Human Rights Act, CPIA) Vetting:

Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical:

Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.

Selection Process:

Selection will be through paper sift, assessment, interview and SC Enhanced Vetting. Officers will be expected to attend the three week H1 handler core skills course as well as being required to provide a drug and alcohol test.
