About the job?

Work with the Internal Communications team to deliver the strategic objectives for Internal Communications outlined in the Annual Business Plan and People Strategy, driving delivery of the strategic business priorities.

We are looking for someone who knows good content - can make short engaging films, has great ideas on how to tell stories of things that matter to colleagues, has graphic design skills, understands and can advise the team on using digital channels, knows how to segment audiences, and is used to working with senior leaders.

This role will focus on developing digital content, growing audiences on our channels, supporting colleagues to develop IC campaigns and working with them to create exciting, relevant and engaging content.

You aren't on your own – you will work as part of team on a collaborative editorial process, you will plan and create engaging campaigns and content to successfully engage and support colleagues to deliver a safe and reliable railway; increase colleague engagement; successful communicate about key workstreams and projects in GWR.

Ultimately, you will ensure Internal Communications supports the business, supports colleagues so they feel engaged and informed, have trust in the leadership team, are proud to work for GWR and are confident in our future.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Keep colleagues informed : Work with the IC team and wider communications function in GWR to deliver a series of proactive planned and measurable campaigns and content for internal audiences so colleagues are informed, understand the part they play and take appropriate action for themselves, each other, and our customers.
  • Storyteller and content creator : Responsible creating content for IC channels, including video, podcasts, screensavers, posters and writing great content. Also responsible for the development of the communications plans for allocated campaigns and collaborating with the team to map the outputs into the editorial plan.
  • Improvement and growth : Work with the IC team to maintain the integrity of the IC channels. You will create engaging content each week that tells the story of key things for colleagues in GWR. You will seek to grow the audience reach and be committed to continually improve and innovate our IC channels to ensure they are well embedded, trusted and respected, that they reach audiences with the right messages at the right time.
  • Measuring impact: Collaborate with the IC team to measure the reach and impact of all IC channels and content and use the data to define decisions on future content and channel choices, and further improve the reach of communications and engagement with colleagues.
  • Support and advise others : Support line managers to cascade and deliver great local internal communications, using the business wide IC outputs with their teams, so colleagues feel engaged, empowered and understand the part they play in GWR and how their roles contribute to the wider organisation objectives.
  • Guardian of brand and content: Provide professional advice and guidance to business areas and operational teams across GWR to ensure local operational communications messages are on brand, reflect the GWR tone of voice and narrative, allow feedback, are relevant, targeted and evaluated to ensure continuous improvement.

You'll need to be:

  • A proven communicator and internal communication specialist, with a track record of developing and delivering internal communications content rooted in best practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong working relationships with diverse employee groups and stakeholders, including frontline colleagues, to develop relevant and useful content that tells the story of the work colleagues are doing to deliver the projects and workstreams in the Annual Business Plan.
  • Confident in managing and developing digital channels and content, and keen to continually improve and innovate to grow the audience and reach of the content produced.
  • A great communicator who can confidently translate corporate priorities into compelling content that is relevant for colleagues in all areas of the business that inspires and engages hearts and minds.
  • A creative content creator with graphic design and digital skills, a good copy writer and project management experience.

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Appropriate qualifications (CIPR, CIM or IoIC qualification, or equivalent qualification or experience), evidence of continuous professional development and experience of working in PR, digital, news or communications team that makes you a great communicator, digital content creator and professional advisor.
  • Experience ofworking with key stakeholders and delivering strategic internal communication campaigns and content that supports colleagues to feel informed, engaged, trust our leadership teams and perform well in their roles.

About the location?

The post will be based in Swindon with working from home and out on the network. The successful candidate will be required to be mobile and travel all over the network.

Working Pattern?

There will be a requirement to be available out of hours during times of significant disruption.
