Overview

Our client is seeking a proactive Retail Supervisor to lead the retail team in a fast-paced production environment. Reporting to the Production Manager, the role focuses on optimising operational performance, managing staff, and ensuring the timely and accurate fulfilment of retail and wholesale orders. You will play a key role in meeting company KPIs, maintaining high-quality standards, and driving continuous improvement across the department.

The Retail Supervisor will deputise for the Production Manager during periods of absence, ensuring the smooth running of operations and alignment with the long-term strategy of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the cutting, packing, and trussing operations, ensuring the department runs efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Ensure product supply to both infeed lines to avoid downtime, monitor trussing efficiency, and manage any breakdowns or changes in the daily plan.
  • Oversee all QA and process control checks, ensuring they are carried out and recorded accurately to maintain food safety and product quality.
  • Manage department KPIs, ensuring production efficiencies such as yield, labour utilisation, and waste reduction.
  • Lead improvement projects aimed at enhancing productivity, including optimisation of labour, equipment maintenance, and peak production planning.
  • Ensure traceability of products and packaging, maintain hygiene and safety standards, and ensure staff training on key areas such as Critical Control Points (CCPs).
  • Develop, train, and motivate the team, ensuring staff adhere to performance expectations and HR policies, including return-to-work interviews, performance reviews, and holiday planning.
  • Champion team engagement and uphold company values, while effectively communicating issues, achievements, and concerns using the company escalation process.
  • Actively promote a culture of health and safety within the team, ensuring compliance with all legislation, policies, and procedures, and drive initiatives to reduce accidents.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by implementing lean techniques and focusing on energy usage reduction and environmental sustainability.

Experience Required for the Retail Supervisor

  • Achieve KPI targets for safety, quality, production performance, and team development.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards, meeting all internal and external audit requirements.
  • Monitor and manage energy usage, waste reduction, and efficiency improvements in line with environmental targets.
  • Maintain accurate data on production performance and staff management, including absence, holiday planning, and training matrix completion.
  • Experience supervising a team in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene legislation.
  • Mechanically minded with the ability to address equipment issues quickly and effectively.
  • Proven track record of driving continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, able to manage staff and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Data recording experience and proficient in IT skills.
  • Self-motivated with commercial awareness.
