Sention Technologies is at the forefront of diagnostic technology for electrochemical technologies, particularly focusing on advanced battery diagnostics using ultrasound. As a key player in the electrochemical energy storage industry, we are dedicated to enhancing the reliability, safety, and performance of energy storage systems. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Operations to join our team in Hackney Wick, London, and contribute to the smooth operation of our cutting-edge technology solutions. 

Position Summary:

As Director of Operations, you will own, build and shape the operations of Sention Technologies, ensuring that all processes run smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with the company’s objectives. 

This role is essential for supporting the operational infrastructure necessary for scaling our diagnostic technology solutions. The day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating projects, working closely with customers and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Beyond the day-to-day, you will work closely with the rest of the leadership team to shape the business strategy and scaling of the company, including working closely with the C-suite to coordinate fundraising efforts to support growth. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management: Oversee daily operational activities, including the management of ongoing workstreams and scoping of new opportunities.
  • Process Optimisation: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate across the Sention team to coordinate project plans, ensuring timely and successful execution of projects against agreed timelines and milestones. 
  • Team Supervision and Development: Supervise and support the team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Sention will be rapidly expanding following the completion of its seed fundraise. Oversee the hiring process alongside the leadership team. 
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure that operations comply with industry regulations and standards, maintaining high levels of quality control and safety.
  • Vendor and Customer Management: Work with the CTO to manage relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services, and the delivery of products.
  • Financial Monitoring: Assist in managing operational budgets, monitoring expenses, and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Fundraising & Investor Relations: Maintain and develop partnerships with existing investors and stakeholders, including working with the CEO to prepare quarterly shareholder reports. Lead the Series A fundraising process by leveraging both an existing personal network of investors and by developing relationships with new investors. 
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to the CEO on operational performance, including tracking key metrics and KPIs. Organise and support board meetings and board administration. 
Must haves:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management or a similar role, preferably within the electrochemical, energy storage, or technology sectors. 
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and drive process improvements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of financial statements and familiarity with developing use of proceeds budgets. 
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., project management platforms, CRM platforms, data room management platforms).
Nice to haves:
  • Experience in the battery or electrochemical energy storage industry, particularly in the scaling of new technologies and taking new technology products to market.
  • Understanding of supply chain management, logistics, and quality control.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards in the electrochemical or energy storage sectors.
  • Experience working with startups, including fundraising from VCs and cVCs.
  • Familiarity with the fundraising deal negotiation process, including understanding of common legal terms and clauses. 
  • Understanding of advanced diagnostic technologies and their applications in energy storage.
  • Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Management, or similar operational excellence frameworks.
