Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role as a Training & Engagement Officer at Race Equality First. The role involves tasks such as conducting training sessions, developing training materials, communicating with stakeholders, and executing employee training programs. The position is based in Cardiff, with flexibility for some remote work.

Position: Training & Engagement Officer 

Salary: £30,000 per year + 3% pension 

Contract: 2-year fixed term (until 31 st October 2026) 

Location: Cardiff & Home-based (hybrid)  with travel across Wales  

Hours: Full-time - 37 hours per week 

Holidays: 28 Days per annum (plus bank holidays)

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Training & Engagement Officer to join our team. About the Role

As our Training & Engagement Officer, you will play a crucial role in delivering training and awareness-raising sessions to communities and organisations across Wales. Reporting to the Training Manager, you will be instrumental in promoting our initiatives, including around gambling harm awareness in Black and Ethnic Minority communities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Delivering training, workshops, and presentations with our Training Manager on cultural diversity, hate crime, discrimination, and other topics across the UK.

- Identifying training needs, developing programs, and delivering sessions via in-person workshops, webinars and other mediums.

- Designing and managing online training and assessments on our training portal.

- Organising community engagement sessions, managing attendance and gathering data for reporting.

What We’re Looking For

To excel in this role, you should bring:

- Experience in delivering community activities, training and awareness-raising sessions.

- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present effectively and produce concise reports.

- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload, work independently and as part of a team, and meet deadlines.

Purpose of Job: Assist the Training Manager in providing all of REF’s training requirements across Wales and deliver awareness-raising sessions for Black and Ethnic Minority people in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea about gambling harms, providing earlier intervention and increasing referrals to the National Gambling Support Network provided by Ara.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Provide training, talks, presentations and workshops for REF around cultural diversity, hate crime and discrimination and how to address this or any other required training to organisations, schools and  audiences across the UK, as well as REF volunteers, staff and board where required.

2. Determine training needs and requirements for organisations requesting training from REF by meeting with managers / employees etc, and delivering training programmes that include web-based seminars, printed manuals, in-person group sessions, training videos etc.

3. Design and produce Race Equality First’s online training provision and assessments on the training portal provided by Absorb.

4. Collaborate with 8 organisations in South Wales over the 2-year duration of the project to promote the project and create referral partnerships for the project.

5. Promote and deliver in-person awareness-raising information about gambling harm to 1,194 Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) people across Cardiff, Newport and Swansea over 2 years (199 individuals per region per year), encouraging community members to self-refer themselves to Ara’s services.

6. Provide a minimum of 120 seamless referrals of BME people to the National Gambling Support Network provided by Ara, including those with their gambling problems and their affected others.

7. Schedule community group engagement sessions, organise presentations and information technology and any other equipment required for these sessions, managing attendance and enrolment for all sessions,  recording accurate attendance registration and gather monitoring data for reporting requirements.

8. Monitor and evaluate all activities delivered by the project in Wales and complete a quarterly monitoring report.

9. Produce and widely circulate marketing materials targeted at the communities to overcome language barriers and cultural sensitivities.

10. Design a Campaign, including videos, addressing all forms of gambling, its impact on family, friends and the wider community, available support and how to access the free service.

11. Working with Ara’s Gambling Services Project Manager, design and develop services to accommodate the needs that may come out of the awareness stage, ensuring they are inclusive and culturally appropriate.

12. Attend regular project meetings with the Gamble Services Project Manager and undertake any adaptations to activity delivery as recommended by the Project Manager. 

13. Refer beneficiaries to an appropriate staff member at REF where additional support for matters not related to the Project is required.

14. To undertake all administrative duties relevant to the post.

15. To work out of office hours when necessary.

16. To attend regular supervision meetings with the CEO of REF and  to undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the CEO.
