Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. As a senior manager has extensive previous experience of managing the middle management level of their team through robust performance management and being a role model.
Is enthusiastic, optimistic, committed, flexible and adaptable.
Is self-aware and recognises own strengths and weaknesses and how to manage their own development and the development of others.
The Head of Development is accountable to the Chief Executive.
In addition to being part of the Senior Management team, managing key strategic operational decisions, the Head of Development will have a pivotal role in leading the development of services offered by Deaf Action through the creation of a robust long-term funding and marketing strategy for organisational sustainability.
To work directly with the Chief Executive and as part of the leadership team, on the development and implementation of the overall strategic business plan with integrated key performance indicators that offer ongoing monitoring for the delivery of plans and the management of budgets within the teams they are responsible for.
This plan will include raising awareness and the promotion of services and opportunities through social media and websites and other networking opportunities.
To oversee the work of the marketing team to establish, develop and implement the Deaf Action Brand across all aspects of the organisation.
To lead on the development and implementation of a fundraising plan, referenced to existing trusts and grant funders and to seek out new funding opportunities, to proactively provide resources that maintain, sustain and develop existing and new services and activities at Deaf Action.
To develop, implement and oversee a fundraising plan that is directly linked to the business development plans to deliver the agreed target of income generation and additional sources of unrestricted income for the organisation and to accurately and succinctly report these KPI’s on a regular basis.
To create a toolkit that provides a system of capturing, analysing and reporting of information and intelligence from each manager to support effective business planning and the quality control of performance.
To develop and manage the organisation’s fundraising policies and best practices.
To join and participate in relevant professional organisations like the Institute of Fundraisers using these forums and others to extend the network of contacts and raising the awareness of the Deaf Action Brand.
To ensure that the relevant databases for monitoring, reporting and capturing information on contracts, networking and funding for business development, marketing and fundraising are maintained and kept within the guidelines for GDPR.
To line manage the Marketing and Fundraising teams and the Bid Writing and Community Services teams (grant funded services), offering appropriate structured feedback with opportunities for personal development that will meet the skill set required for their role.
To work collaboratively across Deaf Action with different teams and managers, supporting and empowering performance delivery and development.
To plan, manage and lead on projects to meet strategic objectives and to ensure project delivery within budget and on time.
Make active contributions within the Senior Management Team and Board meetings as relevant.
