Job Description Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum Information Services Group/Library & University Collections Directorate/Digital Library Full-time: 35 hours per week Open-ended (permanent) Are you looking for a rewarding and challenging role managing the digitisation of the University of Edinburgh’s world-class heritage collections? We are looking for a Digitisation Studio Manager to join our team on a permanent basis. If you have experience of running a digitisation studio, knowledge of a range of high-end imaging equipment, software and workflows, as well as staff management experience and a passion for heritage collections, then we would love to hear from you. The successful candidate will manage our Cultural Heritage Digitisation service, running two studios, line-managing digitisation staff and be responsible for project management, studio workflows and quality standards. This is a full-time (35 hours per week) on-site role, though we are committed to flexible working and are willing to consider options such as compressed hours or staggered start or finish times. Responsibilities Include Overseeing the day-to-day digitisation in L&UC’s digitisation studios, allocating work, ensuring standards (e.g. imaging/metadata) are adhered to and material is digitised effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of service users. Line managing digitisation staff, ensuring they are motivated to perform their roles effectively. Managing digitisation projects and on demand activity as they develop, applying agreed project/service management standards to ensure work is completed on time and within scope, and preparing regular reports outlining digitisation activity. Training staff in photography/digitisation techniques so that they have the skills and knowledge to carry out digitisation to the best of their ability, while emphasising continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and activities. Liaising with key stakeholders within L&UC including staff in conservation, metadata, and collections. Managing and maintaining digitisation equipment and liaising with suppliers for troubleshooting. Contributing to increasing staff and student understanding of digitisation processes through delivering workshops, lectures, blog posts etc. Undertaking photography/digitisation work as and when required to help meet project targets and deadlines. Click to view a copy of the full job description Our Ideal Candidate Will Have A relevant degree level/professional qualification and work experience, or relevant practical experience. Experience of running a digitisation studio and using a range of equipment for different types of requirements. Staff/volunteer management experience. Experience and knowledge of project management approaches and techniques. Knowledge and experience of using digital manipulation software (e.g., Adobe CC). Experience of recruiting staff. Interest in heritage collections. Understanding of international digitisation standards. Good level of IT knowledge. Familiarity with the full digitisation lifecycle including digital preservation, and experience of working with digital files in a DAMS. Excellent communication skills. Library & University Collections deliver highly-regarded services to support teaching, learning and research across the University and wider communities. Services and access to collections are provided online and onsite through the Main Library, site libraries, the Centre for Research Collections, award-winning makerspace services and St Cecilia’s Hall Concert Room & Music Museum.
