Grounds Maintenance Operative

To support the delivery of The Championships, Pre-Wimbledon Qualifying, the Members’ events calendar and other events by assisting with the care and daily maintenance of all playing surfaces and surrounding areas. This includes grass, clay, hard and covered courts, as well as other grass areas and car parks across all venues. Please note that this is a long term recruitment process and should you be successful, the role will most likely commence in April 2026.
Assisting in the care and daily maintenance of grass courts to include applying nutrition (granular and liquid), mowing, marking out, operating pedestrian and tractor mounted machinery, Spring and Autumn grass court renovations across all venues.
Assisting in the care and daily maintenance of clay courts, hard courts, covered courts, croquet lawns, ornamental, other grass areas and car parks across all venues.
Setting up courts for play to include – erecting permanent and temporary netting, operating grass court covers, maintaining cups and water on courts, maintaining and moving benches.
On a day-to-day basis offering flexibility to work across the Horticultural Services Department and Groundstaff Department as required across all venues.
Any other duties within the department deemed necessary by the Lead Groundsperson.
During The Championships period your role will help to support the AELTC’s goal of delivering the world’s premier tennis tournament and to support one of the world’s most prestigious tennis clubs.
Your role will help to provide support across all venues to include The All England Lawn Tennis Club (Championships) Limited (Wimbledon), The All England Lawn Tennis Club Community Tennis Centre (Raynes Park), The Wimbledon Qualifying and Community Sports Centre (Roehampton) and surrounding areas.
Strong turf knowledge and qualifications to include level 2, or equivalent, in sports turf and PA1 and PA6A.
Current full driving licence (Category B). It is a condition of employment the successful applicant holds, and continues to hold, a current full driving licence and be able to demonstrate the ability to safely operate vehicles including, for example, tractors, ride on machinery, buggies and company vehicles (list not exhaustive) to the required standard and in accordance with our site rules.
Organised, efficient, professional, reliable, strong attention to detail and able to meet deadlines with a positive and flexible approach.
Year-round the role is based on 40 hours per week with a requirement to work in accordance with a rota and shift pattern to cover the day-to-day requirements of the role including additional hours, days, weekends and evenings.
To support the delivery of all events across all venues there is a requirement to work in accordance with a different rota and shift pattern to cover the additional requirements of the role including extended hours, days, weekends and evenings.
