The role of Treasurer is a voluntary function of one of the members of the Board of Trustees of SIDA.

The Treasurer’s role is to guide and advise the Chief Executive and the Board of Trustees in the drawing up andapproval of budgets, accounts and financial statements. The Treasurer should advise the Board on the financialimplications of the Alliance’s strategic plans and key assumptions included in its operational plan and annualbudget.

The Treasurer should formally present the accounts at the AGM and ensure that annual accounts are duly submitted tothe appropriate authorities on time and in good order.

Key Tasks

To ensure, in co-operation with the SIDA Chief Executive, that an appropriate financial policy and practice frameworkis in place to guide financial decision making of SIDA and ensure accountable systems for authorisation ofexpenditure.

To develop a clear understanding of the assumptions made in financial planning and budget proposals and advise theBoard of Trustees on these matters.

To prepare for and participate in Board meetings (at least 4 annually) giving the financial report and answeringquestions.

To present the Treasurer’s report at the AGM. This includes a financial statement within the annual report and apresentation at the meeting.

To agree the draft budget with the SIDA Chief Executive and present it to the Board for approval or amendments.

Determine the most appropriate level of financial reserves, and hold responsibility for monitoring the level offinancial reserves

To meet the finance manager as required, at least once prior to each meeting of the Board of Trustees.

To approve any expenditure above the limit set for CEO approval and to draw to the attention of the Board anyuntoward expenditure.

Person specifications:

Accountancy qualifications and experience

Knowledge of small charity finances and obligations

Some experience of serving on a board of Trustees desirable

Ability to explain finance in an easily accessible manner.

Gorebridge Community Development Trust (GCDT) is recruiting trustees who understand the role and the importance ofgovernance in the third sector. We are looking for people who share our core values of inclusion, community,equality, people first and collaboration.

GCDT is a development trust, a member of the Development Trust Association Scotland established in 2004. GCDT ismember led and our work includes the economic, environmental and social regeneration of EH23, we are aregistered charity and a company limited by guarantee. An independent charity, however, we also seek to work inpartnership with other private, voluntary and public sector organisations.

Our board is made up of 12 trustees, 9 of which are members of the organisation, and 3 co-opted individuals. Ideallyyou will have experience of working at a senior management level and will have a deep understanding of thenature of community development.

Commitment

The board meets monthly, either face-to-face (most common), via video chat, or as a hybrid of the two.

The duration of Board meetings is usually no longer than 3 hours.

All relevant papers are forwarded on a reasonable timescale, either via email or posted in hard copy.

Being a trustee is a voluntary role but GCDT will cover relevant out-of-pocket travel and other expenses that wouldallow you to attend meetings.

Aside from the board meeting, additional time consideration should be given to allow for time to read throughrelevant papers, follow up on any action points, and may involve attending occasional additional meetings,events, or strategy days.

EMMS International is Scotland's oldest international healthcare charity. We work in India, Malawi, Nepal,Rwanda, Scotland, and Zambia. Our Board has 8 trustees, and seeks an 9th, to be Chair. The Board meets quarterly, and the Chair agrees the Agendawith the CEO, chairs Board meetings, may be a member of our Finance, Audit and Investment Committee, andline-manages the CEO.

Planning Aid Scotland is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Charity, registered in Scotland. It is defined by itsMemorandum and Articles of Association.

We are a charity and social enterprise that helps people to navigate the planning system. We support a planningsystem that is inclusive, positive and innovative, where individuals and communities have the opportunity toshape the future of their place in an impartial, open and inclusive way. Through our facilitation-basedapproach, we help people participate in the planning system to help ensure that all voices are heard.

We currently have eleven board members and are looking to recruit a new board member to assume the role

of Treasurer.

Board members are expected to take part in quarterly board meetings, these take place for a duration of around twohours, usually in the early evening. Board meetings are hybrid, with the meeting taking place in the office forthose who can attend in-person, with the ability to join online for those unable to attend in-person.

The Board focuses on strategic direction and vision rather than organisational management and service delivery. Inachieving this, the Board’s key consideration is how to implement the organisation’s charitable aims andobjectives and Strategy.

Relationships Scotland is the largest provider of family and relationship support in the country. We offerrelationship counselling, family mediation and child contact centres through a network of 21 Member Servicesacross Scotland. Around 18,000 people receive a face-to-face service each year.

We are looking to appoint a new treasurer to join our Board. The treasurer will be responsible for overseeingfinancial matters on behalf of our Board and will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation has robustfinancial processes to ensure it meets its legal and constitutional requirements. While we encourage and welcomeapplicants of all backgrounds, we are keen to hear from candidates that have experience of charity financialmanagement or are chartered in a suitable accountancy field.

This role would include four board meetings a year (currently a mix of in person and online), along with four onlineOffice Bearer meetings each year, and our AGM.

We want our Board to reflect the diversity of the modern communities we work with, and value the benefits of havingdifferent experience and points of view on our Board.
