Our Mission

As Head of Environment and Sustainability with  Ground Control you will share our passion for nature and commitment to sustainability. You will provide leadership and direction to ensure we lead the environment and sustainability agenda in our sector and hold us to account to achieve our own sustainability commitments.

We’re a privately owned organisation that creates maintains and sustains external environments in the UK and Ireland, while investing 5% of our annual profits into The Evergreen Fund our Impact Venture Fund, dedicated to environmental initiatives and carbon sequestration.

Role Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Strategies : Lead the creation and execution of environmental and sustainability policies, focusing on carbon net zero, biodiversity net gain, sustainable materials, and social value.

Regulatory Compliance : Ensure adherence to environmental and sustainability regulations, manage applicable licenses, and coordinate permits.

Business Development Support : Collaborate with the business development team on tenders, providing technical advice and engaging clients in our sustainability agenda.

Team Leadership : Manage the environment and sustainability team, maintaining the company’s environmental management system and overseeing external certifications and verifications.

Environmental Assurance : Work with the head of quality on a programme of environmental inspections, audits, and leadership visits to foster a positive sustainability culture.

Data and Analytics : Lead initiatives with the data analytics function to account for critical environmental and sustainability data.

Incident Management : Lead the business environmental incident investigation team, liaising with stakeholders and regulators as needed.

External Engagement : Represent the company at industry events, forums, and meetings, and liaise with external bodies and sustainability organizations.

Colleague and Supply Chain Engagement : Develop and deploy engagement initiatives, ensuring effective communication and marketing internally and externally.

What We Need from You

Experience : Established senior management experience within environment and sustainability roles, preferably in the natural or built environment.

Track Record : Proven success in developing and delivering sustainability and carbon reduction strategies.

Qualifications : Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Sustainability Management or Science), CEEQUAL and BREEAM assessor qualifications, and IEMA Practitioner membership.

Skills: Strong communication, influencing abilities, technical understanding of ESG topics, knowledge of legislation, and data analysis skills.

Attributes : Passion for the sector, ability to drive change, navigate the sustainability landscape, and present complex topics to diverse audiences.
